Basetsana Koitsioe joined LvA in November 2024. She is an admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa and holds a BA and LLB from the University of the Witwatersrand, as well as an LLM from the University of Pretoria. Basetsana Koitsioe is a South African public interest lawyer and legal scholar with expertise in gender justice, reproductive rights, and health law. Her work integrates litigation, research, and advocacy to advance social justice and equitable healthcare across Africa. Her work spans cases on workplace sexual harassment, intimate partner rape (S v Coko), and self-defence in domestic abuse. She has contributed to regional litigation through amicus curiae interventions in Uganda and Malawi and collaborated with leading human rights organisations including SALC. In 2025, she was named one of the Top 25 Women Lawyers in Africa to Watch by the Institute for African Women in Law.
